The kitchen is the hardest working room in your home. Today’s kitchens are stylish, durable, organized and designed to fit the whole family. Seven locally designed and built kitchens reveal what’s possible with the right advice.

MODERN GALLEY

This homeowner wanted a warm contemporary kitchen. He worked with Barbara Thorne at South Gate Cabinets Inc. to create a space that combines slab cabinets painted Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore, walnut accent cabinets and antique Heartwood pine flooring. Contemporary metal pulls on doors and drawers came from Richelieu Hardware’s Inspiration Collection.

Lake Huron Traditional

Terra Bianca granite inspired this lakeside cottage kitchen, designed by House Rules Design Shop. The stone’s soft greens and pinks inspired the colour palette for the cabinets, island and glass-bamboo backsplash. Arbour Hill Custom Furniture and Cabinetry maximized storage by adding double layer drawers, a magic pantry and floor-to-ceiling cabinets. JennAir appliances from Square Deal Neil’s elevate cooking to a professional level.

MODERN FARMHOUSE

The design team at Van Dolder’s  Kichen and Bath worked with the existing flagstone floor, pine wall cladding and the rustic cabin theme to update the space. The perimeter cabinets have Seaforth shaker doors, painted Clay – an AyA Kitchens custom colour. The island is made of solid oak with Monterey shaker doors. Counters are from Ceasarstone in Moorland Fog with a bevelled edge. A slide-in range and undermount Bristol stainless-steel double sink are divine additions.

All-White Transitional

Brubacher Cabinets designed a beautiful all-white kitchen – just what the homeowner ordered.  Upper cabinets with European shaker doors in various heights designate prep areas in this large corner space. All cabinetry is painted Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace, sourced at Grey Bruce Paint (the new home of Brubacher Cabinets). The island and counters are topped with Cambria Torquay Quartz, from My Countertop Shop. Maytag appliances from Square Deal Neil’s make cooking and entertaining easy and fun.

GRANITE DREAMS

This kitchen renovation opened the space and added an impressive island topped with Black Horse granite from The Old Barn. Bruce County Custom Cabinets refaced the existing cabinets with new shaker-style doors with an inside bevel. The colour is Willow Grey. The Old Barn topped the perimeter with Absolute Black granite. Cuneo Interiors Carpet One Floor & Home installed the Armstrong Vintage Timber luxury vinyl in Timberwolf. The backsplash is tumbled marble.

BUTCHER BLOCK MODERN

Kayla Livingston, kitchen designer at Wiarton Home Design Centre, created a kitchen for entertaining. She sourced almost everything at the design centre, including appliances  from the Frigidaire Professional Collection. Using Coastal Sea Glass paint on clear alder-wood shaker doors and plain drawer fronts creates a soft colour palette. Cambria Brittanicca Quartz counters on the perimeter help reflect light from the windows over the Kindred undermount sink and Taymor faucet. The large, butcher-block-topped island is the gathering spot when the family entertains.

 FRENCH STYLE

Bruce County Custom Cabinets designer Kaitlyn Shular used magazine tear-outs from the homeowner to inspire this elegant kitchen in a Dennison Homes build. MSI Quartz in Calacatta Laza, sourced from The Old Barn, tops the waterfall island, perimeter counters and is used as a backsplash. Brass lighting and cabinet hardware recreate the look of a French bistro on the Rue des Barres. European-hinged slab doors in Thermoform’s Frosty White were used in the kitchen and a walk-in pantry hidden behind a pocket door.  OH
