ROMANCING THE HOME

Looking to being some romance back into the home, amidst the hectic days and exhausted nights? Leave the hearts to the Valentine’s Day cards and the roses in the vase. Here are some simple, subtle styling tips we would like to share to inspire your own love story.

Mood Lighting

Lighting is perhaps the simplest, most underestimated and most effective way to set the mood. What mood, you ask? Well, any mood, really. Bright lights are not just functional for completing tasks, but they can be stimulating and uplifting, too, making them a great choice for work spaces, such as a desk or a food-prep area in the kitchen. Meanwhile, hotspots for rest and relaxation, like a dining area, bedroom or family room do well with dimmer lighting, which can create a sense of serenity and… you guessed it, romance! For multi-functional areas, I recommend putting the lights on dimmers. This allows you to create a mood on demand, with the simple flick of a switch, depending on the activity you have planned.

Touchable Texture

Nothin’ says lovin’ like plushness. Its physical attributes are warm and soft, inviting you to sit back, relax and… I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. The fight fabrics and upholstery also create the look of luxury and indulgence, great for pampering yourself as well as those you love. Materials such as silk, velvet, cashmere, crepe, wool, faux fur ooze opulence – from the fashion runway to your home. Layer different materials and incorporate elements to create additional softness, such as pillows, throws and rugs underfoot.  Check out our curated collections at @furnishbyisabey.

Bedroom Focus

There’s no doubt that every room in the home can benefit from a little love, but the bedroom is a common focus, for obvious reasons. Whether you’re retreating with a partner, or just want a little me time to reflect and rejuvenate, the bedroom is the place to be. Indulge in some new bedding and pay attention to thread count. The higher the thread count, the softer the sheets. Add seasonal pillows and blankets galore, which can feel like a warm embrace. Then, ensure you make the bed every morning. I also advise limiting the number of devices and electronics. Televisions, video games, laptops and such can be entertaining, but distracting. Make the bedroom a space where you can focus on yourself and your partner.

Details, Details

Last but certainly not least, focus on the fine details. This rule applies to every room in the home—kitchen, living areas, even the bathroom. What can you do to make these everyday spaces feel extra special? Consider adding local made scented candles, like Vancouver Candle Co., artwork, live plants and fresh cut flowers. Remember, it’s the little things that often make the biggest impact.

Our home is our haven. Especially at this time.   Give it—and yourself—to some special attention.

You deserve it!
